We are trying to use code 39 as a bar code font. The problem is that when you put in a space, the scanner will not read the bar code at all. I have tried using ~, =, _ in place of a space and tried * and ! to enclose the bar code as well without any luck. Can some one suggest a solution??

RE: Space Character not recognized

You need to purchase a Code39 Barcode font that supports spaces.

This one does http://www.barcodeone.com/winsoft/Code39TrueTypeFont.htm
you substitute an Underscore for each space and it shows up correctly
It comes with a  VBA function to do this for you.

I mentioned the problems I had with code 39 and some one told me to try code 128 instead so it would recognize the space character. Are there any free code 128 fonts and at which site?

RE: Space Character not recognized

No one is going to give away a Code 128 it is too difficult to make and requires a function to calculate a check digit.

Code39 is very easy to make.
