I saw the new version in Convergence and wasn't really impressed by the improvements except for the new look but the enhancements weren't really significant. I'll wait for another year or so.

I thought the user functionality was better, but the one thing that gets me is that if we upgrade to 8.0 we need to install the Business Portal because we use eReq and eReq will be eliminated with 8.0.

If you decide to upgrade to 8.0, you also need to upgrade to BP 2.5. BP 2.7 which they said will come out by August would have its own Requisition System. I'm also using eReq its not enough to justify our ROI on the sytem.

I agree, but our systems people want to move all web servers to windows server 2003, in which eReq is not supported on. What a coincident.

Oh come now... isn't the fact that I got Advanced Security v8 to run 10 to 20 faster enough reason to upgrade.

There are a significant number of enhancements, other than the "Facelift" UI changes.

There are some very good enhancements, but nothing that jumps out as a must upgrade feature, but of course the Advanced Security.

Wake up Dave...you can't possibly use that line and tell them to invest thousands.

Since we're using distribution and manufacturing, the amount we're going to invest versus the enhancements we'll get in 8.0 won't justify enough that we won't even consider upgrading probably 'til we see real improvements on our process.

If MBS decides to integrate Advanced Distribution instead of selling it as separate modules then I'll jump in otherwise I'll be happy working with 7.5 and some enhancements I did in VBA.

I agree with everyone. We use eReq for our purchasing for all of our locations across Canada. It's a very simple setup and requires little adminstration and works great. About 20 of our users rely on it. If we go to version 8, we'll have to now upgrade our servers to Win 2003 server, lose eReq, and have to use Business Portal. I'm sorry, but I don't really like BP or want to use it. We already have a portal inhouse with Citrix's NFuse that we deploy everything on, which has all our company-wide notifications etc. I hate how our $50,000 a year in enhancements goes towards losing functionality instead of gaining functionality. We should't be forced into changing modules and losing feature that we paid for because Microsoft decides to move into a different direction.

About the Adv Security in 7.5...We have 60 users and 15 companies and I don't find it slow at all (we are not using the accelerator).

If version 8 also fixed our 20 outstanding problem reports, then maybe we'd think of investing in it, but that's not happening either.

I've talked to a lot of Citrix users and have the same problem. Users get kicked out of GP and when they try to login in Citrix NFuse they get the message - "You already have an instance...."

Next step is to log them out of CMC. This has been a daily routine for us and we have more than 50 remote users who calls us just to log them out. Now I'm testing a small program called PKILL and hopefully this would solve this problem.

What have you done to resolve this, any suggestion?

We also about 60 citrix users and are always kicking people out. We also get LOADS of corrupted data because the app gets terminated instead of logging off, so whatever transaction they were working on is lost. We have 5 other apps running on citrix, but Great Plains is the one that always gets kicked out.

I got a freeware and will test it this week. They said it works well with Windows 2003 but still some hickups in W2K. I'm going to change some settings to see if this works. I'll send you a PM if things go well.

Anyone pick up information about how Project will work in Version 8? I have heard rumors that Project will be integrated in Ver. 8. Sure would be nice if it integrated better with a few things like PO, Sales and Inventory.

Right now the only integration with Microsoft Project is with MBS Solomon, I haven't heard of any initiative in GP. You might want to look at 3rd party solutions.
