RE: OLAP question

I have some links and resources at http://www.firstlightassociates.co.uk/DW.html that may help.

Selecting an OLAP system is always a question of balance, and everyone seems to have their favourite system. Some of the main factors are data volume and volatility, plus the importance of system availability and how up-to-date it is (i.e. does your business rely on seeing yesterday's sales figures or can you wait until next week).

The OLAP Report is very good for comparing the available systems.

RE: OLAP question

Hi, Sarah,
I just finished reading your post, and noticed that you are looking for elements that are found in our product, Databeacon. If you’re not familiar with Databeacon here is a quick run down:

Databeacon is a web based OLAP engine that can provide static or real time analysis of standard data sources as well as standard output from an .exe. Databeacon provides a front-end GUI that allows for manipulation of categories in real time.

Databeacon allows you to import information from ODBC, JDBC, Excel, text files, .exe file output, or URL based data sources. The viewer will display a graphical view of your data, where you will be able to perform calculations, pattern matching and manipulation. You can then export the results to an Excel spread sheet, Word document, PDF file, or save your current view to be used again later. Databeacon runs as a java applet in your standard java-enabled web browser, so you don't have to install software on your computer.

RE: OLAP question

Hi Sarah

This will be very short!

Look I work with MS OLAP on databases of MS Sql an DB2, but
I suggest you Cognos solutions! Yes it's much more expensive but there is a reason for it!

Your database for OLAP will be probably on ORACLE so try to find a product that is most optimized and fastest in work with ORACLE. To see that go to http://www.olapreport.com

My suggestion is Cognos!!

Hope that this will help you anything!
