Learning Oracle Financials 11i

(OP)
Hi Experts,

I am new to Oracle Financials, and would appreciate it if you could tell me what would be the best and quicker way to learn Oracle both from a technical and functional perspective. We are rolling out in two months to Oracle Financials, and I don't feel the training provided was sufficient. Also, when I open Oracle manuals (User's Guide), I get lost because of the huge amount of information they contain. I feel like tt would take me ages to go through all these manuals. I am looking for soem something specific, and to the point. I do have Oracle University training materials, but they are designed to be used only for a training course, not as a reference. I also have a book from Osborne (Oracle financials application consultant), but that one as well is not good.
I would appreciate any advices.

Cheers!

RE: Learning Oracle Financials 11i

You say that you have the Oracle University manuals, does this mean that you took a few courses? Go to http://education.oracle.com/ to see what is available.

The user manuals are big but they are complete.  If you find them too daunting, you should at least skim them to familarize yourself with the information that is available to you.

You can also use the online help while in the Oracle application.  Pick an area to explore, open the forms and click on the "?" on the menu bar.  This will allow you to go back and forth between the help and the form.

Hopefully your company has purchased support and you have access to Metalink.  Register for Metalink and start browsing the Financial forums.  Learn how to use the search function to search for notes on particular problems and errors.  Familiarize yourself with the process of creating a tar.

Don't overlook gaining functional knowledge.  If you run into a problem with the application and seek help from Oracle, they will assume that you know how the application should function and have already ruled out user error.
