(OP)
I am trying to modify the outlook today page in outlook 2000. I want to incorperate a search element to search papers and display.

When i edit the outlwvw.dll the office 2000 self repair kicks in and reverts to the original.

RE: Anyone know the Reg setting to stop Office 2000 self repair

What you need is the Digital Dashboard Starter Kit. It's free.

You can then write html code for your Outlook today page and do just about anything you want with it.
