Limit on record length in comma delimited?

Limit on record length in comma delimited?

Limit on record length in comma delimited?

(OP)
We are attempting to read a comma delimited file with a SUFFIX=COM master. All works well until the data in the record pushes out to column 145 or beyond. When that happens, we get this message:

(FOC416) MORE VALUES SUPPLIED THAN FIELDS IN THE MASTER FILE DESCRIPTION

If we then break the record into two records, with no data in 145 or beyond, everything works fine again.

Is 144 the record length limit for this kind of file? Is there any way around it?

RE: Limit on record length in comma delimited?

Try a $ sign at the end of each record to delimit it. so a record would be:
field1, field2,lastfield,$

RE: Limit on record length in comma delimited?

The records already have a $ sign at the end of the record. The problem deals with the length of the record, not the format of the file.

RE: Limit on record length in comma delimited?

That message normally means that there are more comma-separated fields on the incoming file than have been specified on the master file desc.
I've used csv files wider that 144 (VM/CMS platform).

RE: Limit on record length in comma delimited?

(OP)
Yes, but there are not more values. If we delete some digits from individual numbers, without deleting the number, the record is successfully read. Ditto is we split the record in two with each part less than 145 positions.

Processing is on MVS.

RE: Limit on record length in comma delimited?

How are you pointing to the file (what's the ALLOCATE look like)?
