Quicktime playing audio in Internet Explorer browser

(OP)
When I try to play a streamed MP3 file from a web address through my cable modem connection, the quality is very poor.  I'm talking about when audio is being streamed and the player doesn't actually launch itself.  It is instead played as a gray apple bar in the middle of the browser.  It not only stutters, but there is also an annoying interference that makes the music not worth listening to.  I can stream fine through other applications, such as Music Match, and Windows Media player.  I tried changing the player's "Streaming Transport" settings to a different port, but it didn't make a difference.  It's frustrating because many audio samples online require Quicktime, and I can't get it to work properly.  Can anyone help?
