RE: Quicktime and Windows 2000 Problem
I came across your message when searching for help with the same problem. So I've come back to let you know how I fixed it. I had to disable all hardware acceleration in my Display options. I haven't come across this solution elesewhere but I have seen a lot of similar complaints in other forums (including Apple's own), most of which had the whole Win2K system freeze when trying to load a QT movie. So far I've had no more bother, with hardware acceleration turned off via Display Properties/Settings tab/Advanced. Hope it works for you.

I am not sure how to disable hardware accelaration! If any of you could kindly explain!
RE: Quicktime and Windows 2000 Problem
> Go into Control Panel --> Quicktime
> Choose 'Video Settings' in the combo box
> Select 'Options'
> Untick 'Enable DCI' and 'Enable DirectDraw'
(The other 2 options should be automatically disabled)
That's it! Hope it helps for some.

Pay attention to download the correct DirectX for your platform: there's one for Win95/98/Me and another for NT/2000/XP.
Good luck
RE: Quicktime and Windows 2000 Problem
One of our customer reports a unusual quicktime behaviour : while playing a mov file, he gets some intermittent long (about 5-10 seconds) white screens, while the sound continues. The white screens dont occur at the same moment from one test to the other.
This happens only when playing from its cd-dvd-rom drive : when copied on the hard drive, the video plays fine.
The mov file is expected to be played in a Director animation, but the problem also occurs when the mov is played in the movie player.
Some technical background : the mov file is quite big (about 350 MB), compressed with Sorenson Pro 2. Its contains one video track, 7 sound tracks and 7 texts tracks (but one of each is enabled at a time). The data rate of the video track is about 120 kbs.
The different tracks were at first kept as external files, linked together with a link movie, but the problem also occurs with a flattened file.
The machine on which this problem occurs is a Sony Vaio laptop PCG-R600HEK, runing Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP 1.
Being given the fact that the trouble come only when played on the cd-dvd-drive, we have tried to burn different CD-R, using several burners and software.
We think that the problem is probably related to the customer harware/software config. But as we prepare to duplicate this program massively, we would like to explore all the options.
Did someone already faced such troubles ?
