I have a several Sun Enterprise 250 with Solaris 2.x installed and APC UPS 1400 power supplies that I would like to setup to shutdown gracefully during a power outage. Initially I installed APC PowerChute business edition from the APC website. I then realised that the 9Pin D to 9 Pin D PC type serial cable that I had would not connect to the Sun Enteprise 250 servers 25 Pin D serial port (A or B). I contacted APC support and they seemed to suggest that I needed another cable from them along with a splitter for the Serial ports on the Sun box? When I enquired what this was called or the part number I was told I could get it from Sun but they could tell me no more. They also mentioned I needed APC Powerchute 4.5 and not what I had installed. I have the following questions:

1. What is this cable to connect the Sun box to the APC UPS's Is this just the normal 9 pin 9 pin PC to UPS type cable?

2. What is this "Sun splitter" the guy mentioned?
Is this just a convertor that converts one of the 25 pin serial ports to two 9 pin serial ports?

3. Does anyone have a similar setup that works? i.e. shuts the servers down gracefully on power failure? Software version e.t.c would be useful

any hints would be appreciated

Thanks
