Opening a document using docid

(OP)
Hi,

This is my first post and I have a question for you. I hope I can explain this well enough:

In a form I have a list box which populates a field using @dbcolumn lookup. In this case it's the document title in another database...no problem.
What I want to be able to do is after this field is populated either click in the field or use another button to open the said document in the other database. So far all I can manage is to open the other database from the field then scroll down the list of documents to find the one I want - not a problem, but when the database contains several hundred documents - it's a pain.

Is there a way to get the document id (from the title I have just picked in the previous field) then use this to link directly to the document....

Thanks in advance.
Ian

RE: Opening a document using docid

What you can do is, in the view you are connecting to for the dblookup, the column where you retrieve your value, you can add an alias to the value you select in the field.

e.g.

At the moment:
value for column 1 in view = DocumentTitle

try this:

value for column 1 in view =
DocumentTitle | @Text(@DocumentUniqueID)

what this does is, when you select the value in the list, and it shows the document title, and you access that field value in your formula, the value retrieved is actually the Doucment Unique ID and not the document title.

Hope this helps.
