Can't get two servers to talk to each other

Can't get two servers to talk to each other

Can't get two servers to talk to each other

(OP)
I have two NT servers, both domains are set as trusted and trusting. Login is administrator for both. Settings appear to match. The new server can access the old one but the old one can't see the new one. Access denied.
Any ideas? Would a beating with a large stick help?

RE: Can't get two servers to talk to each other

Can they ping each other? Have you checked the protocols match exactly.

What error message do you get from the one that fails? Have you tried shortcuts to \\otherservername\c$ to check access that way?

Save the beating stick until all possibilities have been exhausted.

Zel

I tinkered around today and managed to get both servers to recognize each other. I can browse both domains from one of the new stations (set up at the same time as the new server) but still can't access the new domain from stations belonging to the old one. The servers trust each other. The new server doesn't trust the old stations.
No deadline. No hurry. Thanks for responding, Zel.

RE: Can't get two servers to talk to each other

If you are using TCP/IP, You MUST make sure both domains are on the same subnet mask. Or else one might be able to see the other but not vice versa.?? i think that makes sense! Anyway, just a suggestion.

Same subnet. Everything looks like it should work. It doesn't.

RE: Can't get two servers to talk to each other

Static or dynamic IP addressing? (i.e. manually assigned or DHCP).
Can stations ping each other?
How are the servers attached to the network? Crossed cables and routers or straight and switches?
Tried loading NETBeui?

I got. It was something so obvious I couldn't see it and I'm too embarrassed to admit it now that I caught it. Thanks for the suggestions but, please, never mind.

Come on - tell all. We won't laugh.

Do you still have the beating stick?

:-)

Broke it over my head. Anybody need pieces of a slightly used stick?
