PSP 8 ?? PSP 8 ?? gthopkins (Programmer) (OP) 1 May 03 09:00 Hi,Is anyone using PSP8 yet? I just received notice that my upgrade has shipped. I would love to hear your thoughts on version 8 of this gem of a program. All the very best to you,Greg RE: PSP 8 ?? mThomas (Instructor) 1 May 03 15:57 I've been beta testing it. You are going to love the new features. There are just to many to mention, but one of the most fantastic is the ability to record and or script actions using Python. Now this isn't like PhotoShop where you can just record, in PSP 8 you can write full blown Python scripts to create inter-active tutorials. My copy shipped yesterday and is due on the 6th.mike RE: PSP 8 ?? gthopkins (Programmer) (OP) 1 May 03 16:18 Hi Mike,Wow! Sounds terrific. I'm really looking forward to PSP8's arrival. I have used PSP primarily for photo editing and web graphics. Python is bit beyond me, as I have never tried to script anything. I guess that's mainly because I thought is was purely for server applications.I had gotten away from PSP for a few months, while I was learning Photo Impact 8, which is another great image editing package for around $100 USD. I always return to PSP. I love the layer feature, as it makes more sense to me than the object model Photo Impact uses.Do you know if JASC has done anything to improve Animation Shop? It is still included with PSP, I hope?!Ah, just a few more days until it arrives. In the meantime, I have spent a few solid hours brushing up on the Anniversary edition. I thought it couldn't get any better than this, yet I guess it has.Thank you for your response. Now, I'm really excited. All the best,Greg RE: PSP 8 ?? mThomas (Instructor) 1 May 03 17:04 Animation Shop has not been updated for PSP 8. Animations Shop will work with PSP 8 like it does with PSP7, it just hasn't been updated.mike RE: PSP 8 ?? gthopkins (Programmer) (OP) 1 May 03 20:10 Thanks. I just wanted to be sure it was still included as part of the PSP package. I was satisfied with the last version of AS. I appreciate your help.-Greg RE: PSP 8 ?? AyJayEL (TechnicalUser) 4 May 03 16:41 I've been using the beta version too and I love it. I particularly like the background eraser. It's very clever and works really well. Also the one step photo fix. Although though there is always the odd picture that looks better before it was fixed mostly it does a really good job.I agree with Mike, the script recording feature looks good although I haven't given it a try yet.I belong to a camera club and the chairman is always saying that Photoshop is much better than PSP but now I think he will have a really hard job to prove it. Time for a play off I think..... (and it's a lot cheaper ) Learn something new every day AyJayEl RE: PSP 8 ?? larrymeadows (Programmer) 6 May 03 09:52 I just purchased PSP 8. I am new to using PSP and I know that I am going need a step by step book to explain all of the cool features. The manual that comes with it is a Technical manual, not really a (look this is how you do this manual). Can anyone recommend a really good book for PSP8 or at least the best writter?Yes I know it comes with a special offer but I wanted to make sure it was the best book before I shell out the cash.:) (yes I can be cheap)... Thanks RE: PSP 8 ?? mThomas (Instructor) 6 May 03 10:07 My good friend Lori Davis has a CD out on PSP8. Check it out at http://www.muskalipman.com . I'm pretty sure is is free with any purchase or something like that.mike RE: PSP 8 ?? gthopkins (Programmer) (OP) 6 May 03 10:08 Hi all,My PSP8 arrived yesterday. My eyes are bloodshot from staying up too late and playing. The interface reminds me of PhotoImpact, but seems to make more sense to me than PI's approach.Regarding what books to recommend. When I opened the boxed version of PSP8 there was two coupons for two books on PSP8. I'm not sure that they are published, as yet. The coupons were for a free book(you pay shipping) and a 40% discount on another. So, check the box, when it arrives.I believe, some of the most powerful techniques I have learned, came from the support groups. Some of these users are truly talented and gifted. Here are some links to get you started. NewbiesHangout@yahoogroups.comhttp://www.enigmasource.com/cgi-bin/pspizbeta2/pspug1.cgiEnjoy! Best of luck to you.-Greg RE: PSP 8 ?? mThomas (Instructor) 6 May 03 10:15 I'm pretty sure (as my boxed copy has not arrived yet) the free book is the CD I mentioned in a previous post.mike RE: PSP 8 ?? mThomas (Instructor) 6 May 03 12:02 I just got my boxed CD and the free book is Lori's PSP8 Solutions which is free except for shipping.mike RE: PSP 8 ?? TomMay (TechnicalUser) 7 May 03 07:56 I've been Beta testing. There are a lot of new things. My favorite so far is the Mesh Warp tool. This allows you to easily warp a raster image. A friend of mine sent me a Betty Boop image of Betty as a hula dancer. I put her mid section from neck to knees on another (top) layer and on the bottom layer used a clone brush and regular brush to fill in the background where the portion of the body on the top layer had been. Then I applied the Warp Mesh tool to the top layer and produced a series of images with the hips swaying back and forth. In a couple of hours I had a gif animation that I put together in Animation Shop of Betty dancing. I sent this to my friend and she was impressed. This would have been much more difficult and time consuming without the Mesh Warp tool.
