Fonts available for PDF hold files

Hi, I'm using Webfocus 4.3.1. in a Windows 2000 environment and I need to generate some PDF outputs. However, when I try to use fonts such as Bookman, the system seems to ignore this and uses what looks like Times New Roman instead. When I code 'BOOKMAN OLD STYLE' as the font name in the stylesheet, the program rejects this, showing a message about an unrecognised font. Reports displayed to the screen, however, do display properly so the issue is connected with the generation of the PDF file. Am I missing some step in the procedure or must I work with a limited number of fonts, e.g. Arial, TNR, Verdana, etc.?

RE: Fonts available for PDF hold files

Hello Peter,

The manual says that if you use an unsupported font then the browser (respectively adobe reader) will use the default font. That may be the reason that you get Times New Roman. Have you tried the font Arial? This works in my reports. If it doesn't work with yours there may be some other mistkae in the report. The most common I always make is forgetting , $ after the style line
(FONT=ARIAL, $ to end the line)

Eva

Hi Kaeserea,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried Arial and it works bit I really wanted Bookman which displays on reports OK (it's one of many fonts available in Webfocus Report Painter) but fails to transmit to the PDF file. I'll probaly end up doing what I did when programming in the VM/CMS environment - i.e. outputting a postscript file and sending it off to Adobe Distiller. This will definitely work.

RE: Fonts available for PDF hold files

Hi Peterg5
I want to know how to get the o/p in post script file and then outputting the same into to PDF, using Webfocus.

Please Help me in this matter.
Thanks

Hi Reddygaru,

You can use Webfocus to generate the postscript file by saying "ON TABLE HOLD AS 'WHATEVER' FORMAT PS" at the end of the fex. In order to generate a PDF file, however, you need access to Adode Acrobat Distiller, which can convert PS files into PDF files. This normally works on the basis of an IN folder, where the PS files are received and an OUT folder where the Distiller sends the PDF output.
Once you have generated the PS file using Webfocus, you can copy or FTP it to the Adobe Acrobat Distiller's IN folder and the PDF file should appear in the OUT folder a few seconds later.

Peter.
