Why Upgrade to EDM 5?

Why Upgrade to EDM 5?

Why Upgrade to EDM 5?

We are currently on edm 4.6 on a sun box, however to upgrade to edm 5 we need to spend money upgrading the server hardware. Although there are issues with 4.6, and that v5 offers more security, but are there significant advantages to upgrading to v5 in terms of administration, client support, catalouge management etc etc

by the way we are backing 100% via network, no symmpath, bcvs etc.

Thanks for your help in advance.

RE: Why Upgrade to EDM 5?

EDM 5.0 utilizes an enhanced management console that is not available with 4.6.1 additionally it uses enhanced catalog management and is alot more stable than any previous release also 4.6.1 will not be supported by the EMC Assitance Center.

EMC is coming out with a "lite" or software only install of EDM 5.0 that will  not require you to purchase a V880 so you may want to ask your SE about that possibility in your environment.

Hope this helps, and isn't too late
