Failure to connect SQL Server 7.0 from DOS clients

Attempt to connect to SQL Server 7.0 from MS-DOS clients using DBMSSPX.EXE sometimes fails but sometimes succeeds.

In failure case, error messages as follows are displayed on the client and server side respectively :

Client side -
DB-library error 10010:network possible error, unable to reade from SQL Server
Server side -
invalid login packect sent

Additional Information :
network library : nwlink ipx/spx
network protocol : ipx/spx
client application : foxpro 2.5 for DOS
