I am using AI 10 and wanted to convert a document to an EPS for Mac. I don't see a radio button as there used to be in the older version of AI to enable saving as a Mac EPS. What am I doing wrong. Thanks...

.eps means encapsulated postscript which is OS independant, or universal format. Mac's can open anything, it's the PC that has trouble so you should be OK with what ever the Save As... .eps gives you. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Platform selection referred to the bitmap preview that was embedded with the vector art for previews in page layout applications. Mac used PICT, Windows used it's own format. This discrimination is not really necessary now - welcome to the 21st century. Pour yourself a beer (or non-alcoholic festive drink) and toast the fall of the iron curtain in computer graphics.

One more thing... I believe Mac AI still gives that option when saving because PC cannot necessarily read Mac PICT. You may have been thinking of saving on a Mac.

Whatever you save in PC AI will do fine on a Mac. You may only concern yourself with platform specific previews while saving from Mac AI.

EPS bitmap previews are not essential and can be recreated/restored when opened and resaved from AI.

If a preview is not embedded in the EPS, page layout programs can generate previews when the image is placed.
