(OP)
The company I work for produces bespoke software to a specific market.
The software uses Access 97 as its database platform and is written in C++.
Crystal Reports (Vs 7 with latest MR1) is used for reports generation.

The package is operated over various network and operating systems like  Windows NT, Terminal Server, Citrix, Winframe, Windows 2000, Novell and Windows 95.

This particular problem appears only to be prevalent on systems where the network is Novell and the client PC's are using Windows 95.

We have made sure, at sites where this error is happening, that they have the latest Novell server and client versions.  However this has no bearing on the error.

We have checked the following files to ensure correct versions
CRYSTL32.ocx v6.1.0.609  (6.1.0.000)
CRPE32.dll v7.0.100.15  (7.0.1.100)
CRPAIG32.dll v5,0,0,2 (5,0,0,2)
CRXLAT32.dll v7.0.0.0 (7.0.0.0)

It seems this automation error -2147417848 (80010108) relates to either Access or Crystal not being able to start a service in terms of windows calls.

We have not been able to find either an answer or a fix.  Any assistance you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated.

This has also been posted on the Seagate Crystal Reports Forum.

RE: Automation Error '-2147417848 (80010108)

I don't know what else to tell you but have them upgrade to Windows '98 or better Windows 2000 Me or Windows 2000 Pro.

As you may know most software has a limited range of products it can run on.
You can’t be all things to all people.

Windows '95 is 6 years old Today,  Its 2001 now, in computer terms that’s a Dinosaur

PS I have noticed for whatever reason than Novell and Access do not get along.

Maybe Access likes TCP/IP or NetBEUI better than IPS/SPX
