evaluation version expired immediately after installation

evaluation version expired immediately after installation

I realize that this isn't exactly a question on using PSP, but I thought I'd start here and see what kind of response I get!!

I purchased a book on web desing about six months ago, it contained a supplementary disk which contained a trial version of PSP, PHP, MySQL etc etc etc ...

I installed PSP from the disk about 6 months ago (or maybe it's a little less) and uninstalled it a week or two later as I wanted to install PHP & MySQL and didn't have enought space on my hard drive for all of them.  Now, I want to reinstall PSP, but as soon as I installed it and tried to run it I got a message saying that the evaluation version had expired and I'd have to order a fully licensed version.  How can I get arund this, seing that I never really got to "evaluate" the product for the full trial period.

How can I reinstall it so that I can continue where I left off ... ?

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

Try downloading a trial version from the jasc site at http://www.jasc.com You will not be able to use the disk evaluation version.

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

The problem is, you put PSP on, then took it off to install PHP and MySQL, but your computer stores data on how long trial software has been on your computer, from the moment you installed it. Therefore, when you come to put PSP back on, your computer still holds the data from when you first put PSP on, and knows how long left you've got on your trial period, and that's why its expired.

Downloading a trial version might work, if its a different version than the one you're having trouble with. However, I wouldn't rely on that working.

The only proper way to fix your problem is to purchase the software, but it costs a lot (although its worth it).

Another solution, although VERY risky, is to uninstall PSP, then go into your registry and delete all the keys that point to PSP, but unless you know what you're doing with your registry, dont attempt this.

I figured that there was something in the registry that was doing it, but I didn't know where to look.  I don't mind editing the registry, but what do I need to change/delete?

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

Hi Everyone,

As some you might know, I work very closely with Jasc, including having 10 of my tutorials included with the Anniversary Edition of Paint Shop Pro. I would hope and do not think that editing the registry will work. Think about it. If it did work, all one would need to do is install an evaluation version of psp and then uninstall, edit the registry and then re-install the evaluation version without ever having to purchase the product. If anyone wants to know the steps to editing the registry to tell a computer that an install of psp is a fresh install, then those steps should be received from Jasc. If one explains their reason for not using the evaluation version for the full evaluation time, Jasc may or may not allow a re-install of their product.

I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but we should not be telling anyone how to possibly circumnavigate the terms of use that one agrees to when installing an evaluation version of Paint Shop Pro.

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

This method of going through the registry works on most trial software, but that doesn't mean I support the idea of getting around "trial periods". I thought it was fair to offer this advice based on the fact he had not had the chance to evaluate the software yet - I wouldn't have mentioned it if he'd have said something like "I've used PSP every day until the trial ran out, how do I keep using it?" ... The only answer then is to buy it.

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

I had Jasc Paint Shop Pro as an evaluation package. When I decided I liked it I contacted Jasc and they let me 'upgrade' to the full version which only costs £40 (I think, it was a while ago) compared to £90 (or thereabouts) in PCWorld.

£40 well spent!

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

I downloaded the whole package from JASc earlier this year for bout the same price.  But I would only recommend this option if you are using broadband or cable as it would take about 2-3 hour via a std modem. Although to be fair you can download it in 3 distict sections
It was well woth the effort though it's still one of the best graphic packages and really holds its own against some very expensive alternatives.

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

In my biased opinion, dollar for dollar, Paint Shop Pro can not be beat.

RE: evaluation version expired immediately after installation

Is that a cost of a coat of paint then?

Or is it a jacket per coat comparison?
