DNS/DHCP/IPCONFIG Problem

DNS/DHCP/IPCONFIG Problem

DNS/DHCP/IPCONFIG Problem

(OP)
huloo folks,

My internet connection keeps dropping out at work and as I'm the administrator I need to find out what is happening.

I have found that the following occurs:
Internet drops out
cannot ping past firewall.
IP addresses are not affected, ie ipconfig /all shows normal DHCP connection.
Some shares are unable to be contacted (all PC's and servrs are on the same subnet)
IPconfig /renew usually fixes issue.
Sometimes have to do a /release /renew
If this does not work, a /flushdns fixes issue for a while.

I'm sure this is a network issue and not a local issue as multiple PC's are affected (ie pretty much all of those that access the web)
I have created a batch file that renews the IP address and then opens IE, but this is only a bandaid not a fix.

appreciation expressed prior to assistance.

Cheers,

Pete

TechFlunky,

I'm waiting on the next drop out.  Shouldn't have to wait too long.

Glen,

lease time is 3 days.

Cheers,

Pete

RE: DNS/DHCP/IPCONFIG Problem

My connection at home using a cable/modem is goofy also.  About one out of three times I start the pc, there software doesn't find my nic.  Made a batch file, release, renew, works everytime.  Maybe put a batch file in users profile on AD so when they log on, it runs.  Any error messages in the log files?
