How can I make the audio files I import and drag to the composition window work in the preview?  I want to be able to syncronize my effects with the music but the music doesn't play.  What is the setting that will allow me to preview the sound?

Open the Time Controls panel (from the Window menu) and click the loudspeaker button. Also make sure the speaker box on your audio level is checked in the timeline.
