Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

(OP)
Hi,

I have a fiber NAM with 8 channels and just received an MS-PEC.  This looks like a PCMCIA card and goes in a slot on the fiber card in the NAM.  I did not get any installation instructions and it looks like it could go into any of 4 places.  Would you know where it goes?  Is there any software required to enable it?  I do know that I have to add software keys via F983 .. 44 after it is installed to enable the ports for the VM application.

Thanks,
Harold

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

Got it!

Shut down Nam
Locate the appropriate PEC slot on the BIC. The first PEC is installed in the PEC slot 1. If you are looking at the NAM with the disk drive in the upper right side. Then slot 1 is the leftmost slot of the top pair of PEC slots.

So it goes:
Slot1 - PEC #1 / Slot2 - PEC #2

Slot3 - PEC #3 / Slot4 - PEC #4

Simply slide the PEC in to the slot and make sure it snaps into place. The PEC is keyed and cannot be installed incorrectly. Just don't force it.

Power Up!

Mroberts,

Doesn't seem to want to come up.  The fiber light on the NAM goes on, then off, then on briefly then off for good.  VM does not come up any more.  Are there either some dip switch settings on the SBC or the fiber card that need to be set?  Are there any settings in OS/2?  There is a place for a connecter on the top of the MS-PEC.  Does something go in there?

Thanks,
Harold

Mroberts,

might I have to add the extra software port enable keys first?  Do I have to enable any additional access ports first?

Thanks,
Harold

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

fiber light?? where are you seeing this fiber light? is it on a box( ds30 adaptor)

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

The fiber light I am talking about is on the end of the card where you attach the fiber connecter.  When you take off the fiber connecter you will see a red light.

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

I am certain there are no settings on os2 that are required. try removing all the feature codes for the voicemail in xftest there may still be some in there. pull your ms pec card out and make sure there are no bent pins on the fibre card in the nam. I don't recall any dip switch settings needing to be set.
to access xftest:
feature **938378   password is ( config ) or whatever your config password is
push "first"  then "test"  then" remove"
clear all inactive feature codes
not a lot of help but....

Thanks for the tip west coaster.  I have tried the MSPEC in all of the 4 available slots with the same results.  DO you know anything about the connecter on the top of the MSPEC.  Are you supposed to atached a cable to it?

Here is something interesting.  WHen I did a F915 BEFORE I installed the MSPEC (I cant do it anymore because with no fiber light there is no attachment to the MICS), and I go to UPGRADE CHANNELS, the phone says NOT SUPPORTED.  Is this correct?

What am I missing here????

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

ummm... fax card?? I think that required a separate connector. unfortunatly I don't have a maintaince manual at home right now. I would have expected the "not supported" prompt without the mspec installed as the mspec is required to go beyond 8 ports. Silly question: have you tried to power up the nam without the mspec installed?   connector on top of the mspec???? (the pcmcia card??)  I don't recall seeing any connectors on the mspec cards. I may be out of date because we don't install too many of them but I am sure there is no connectors that are used (or should be there ) on the front (top) of those cards . could you post all info on that card?  I really hope I am wrong and you don't have the wrong pcmcia card.

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

Hello I'm not sure but  I think you have to enter a special serial code that you might have to get from who ever sold you the media card.

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

Sorry, I was gone for the day.... Anyhoo, okay so you are no longer getting fiber light from your DS30 fiber cable that you are using to connect from the bottom of the NAM to the 6 port eexpansion card in the MICS, yes?
Replace the cable, first off so we can get into programming.
If the light is a no go on the card, then go into Maintenence and reset the module.

About the upgrade itself. You will need a Keycode from Nortel. The info you will need before you call them is:
Current channels installed on the NVM system
Number of Voice Channels to be added
Internal Norstar Voice Mail Serial Number

I faxed over an info sheet for you to fill out... You should have received it when you got your Key code Authorization number.

I have also faxed over to you the three pages involved with installing the PEC from the NAM Installation and Maintenance Manual.

Hope this works for ya

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

yes there are connectors on the mspec
no they are not used ( at least for anything I am aware of )
you should just be able to plug the mspec into slot 1 and presto! (however murphy has to poke its nose in)

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

PLEASE STOP.  COLLECT YOUR INFORMATION.  CALL SOMEONE FAMILIAR WITH NAMS LIVE WITH YOU AS YOU PROCEED.  I'D HATE TO SEE YOU MAKE A COSTLY MISTAKE.  IT SHOULD BE A RELATIVELY EASY MATTER TO GET YOU UP.

RE: Anyone know how to upgrade a NAM?

Just for everyone to know, installing an MSPEC should have been a very straightforward task.  In fact, as long as you know which slot to put it in, thats about it.  Unfortunately, the first MSPEC that my distributer sent me was defective.  That was the whole problem.  I got a replacement and it went in in 5 minutes.  Thanks for all of your help....
