Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

Kinda doubting a definate answer, but I'll throw it out here anywayz.

We need to support many home users.  More and more, home users are using cable modems to connect to the Internet and our internal network.

My problem is this-
Raptor Mobile seems to have a mind of it's own when connecting to the firewalls through the cable modem.  Pinging goes through fine, but the firewall connectivity just cannot connect to the servers 100% of the time.
About 1 times out of 10, it will connect and create the tunnel, but not 5 minutes later, all internet conections are dropped, VPN's and normal internet.

Any thoughts?

RE: Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

having the same problem on the @home network cable modem with both win98 and 2000.

RE: Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

We experience the same issues. Were you ever able to resolve this?

RE: Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

You might have to call AtHome to confirm this, but I think that their entire residential network runs behind a proxy server. In general this seems to prevent PPTP/VPN from working. (Other types of VPNs ?) Another post seemed to indicate that it could work, but not with the default settings.

You could call them to confirm this, and hassle them if you think it might make a difference.

Good Luck,

RE: Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

I spoke with someone yesterday that was having the same problem with @home.  He actually called them and found that they didn't support IPsec.  They were not alowing IP type 50 & 51 over there wire.  You may want to confirm this.  I have also heard this with some dsl providers.  They will sell you home service for say $40.  If you want to use IPsec they consider that business and charge you $90.  Funny that these protocols are created so that you can inexpensively connect via the internet for security but then your provider will get your $ to allow it.  Does this seem to defeat the purpose a bit?
It is strange though that they connect and drop the tunnel after a specified period of time.  I wonderr if you are even going into the tunnel or if it is being routed somewhere else.  What does the log on the FW say?

RE: Raptor Mobile with Cable Modem

check the software ver. on the gateway and apply the current patches
