I have a new Compaq Ipaq H3870 pocket PC, which from the start has been nothing but hassle. It is connected to Win98 PC using serial port [couldnt get USB to work].

It regularly comes up with errors saying the device is not found, or that it couldnt establish a connection, or that 'Inbox needs attention'. The only thing that sorts it is for the software to be reinstalled and a new connection made. However now it is saying it has synchronised, but in fact none of the emails are transferring across.

Anyone have any ideas?  I am likely to throw it out of the window if I cant get it sorted!

First off: don't throw it out the window, give it to me!
Anyway...
Try to use usb, way better than serial. Upgrade windows if you have to.
To your other problem: to start a connection in serial, you have to open active sync on your handheld and select sync, while connected. For the inbox problem: make sure that the correct service is selected and that it is set to sync all the messages from the inbox, not just ones from the last few dyas.

Thanks!  Had finally worked out that I had to upgrade Windows from 1st to 2nd edition to get USB to work, and once that was installed it all seems ok. Serial connection is defintely not very good.
