Formatting a floppy

Hi,

I want to be able to format a floppy disk. I've got as far as being able to read/write from it but now I'm stuck. Any hints? links? anything?

DOS' format creates a boot loader, two FAT tables and fills the rest of the disk with ÷ chars. Regards,
