What is a STOVEPIPE Datamart???

What is a STOVEPIPE Datamart???

(OP)
Hi,

I have observed a lot of OLAP gurus throw in terms like Stovepipe datamart, stovepipe application, etc.

WHAT IS A STOVEPIPE Datamart?? or a Stovepipe *whatever*?

Stovepiped,
SQLUser

p.s. I know the dictionary meaning of stovepipe (pipe coming out of stove..going into chimney), so please don't mention that.

RE: What is a STOVEPIPE Datamart???

I think this is where a datamart is just a copy of an operational db with no denormalisation etc.  The idea is that it may do the job to start with but soon becomes inflexible when you want to report on information that is not stored in the original db.

If it's Data Warehousing or related then I want to know - but post it to the forum!
