Lord, I go to give Quicktime 5 a chance and this happens:
http://home.carolina.rr.com/haccess/qtweird.png

The splash screen was just a grey box... I remembered back in the day it used to ask if you want to upgrade to pro or not so I just clicked at random and got the player to load... and it won't display correctly.
WinXP, DX8.1, ATI Radeon, yadda yadda

I loaded sample.mov and it played sound, but nothing was displayed on my screen.

Anybody seen anything like this before?

RE: player doesn't display correctly

YES! I have seen this before! On my machine. I am running XP and I have exactly the same problem: videos with sound but no image, a grey splash screen, and the same application error that you took a screenshot of.

Sorry I have no solution... I hope to figure out this problem as much as you do. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

RE: player doesn't display correctly

I have the same problem with my Athlon 750 / VIA KX133-based mobo box with an ATI Rage Fury and Windows XP.  The funny thing is, I used to have this exact same problem under Windows 2000 Pro, and had tried reinstalling QT to no effect.  But then the problem suddenly went away on its own as mysteriously as it had arrived, only to come back after I installed QT on Windows XP.  I'm still clueless about it.
