Palm OS or Linux

Palm OS or Linux

Which would be the way to go now?

RE: Palm OS or Linux

I assume you're trying to decide which to use?  There are far more applications available for the Palm platform than for any Palm/Linux distribution.  Unless you feel a specific need to support the Palm/Linux movement I would stick with the Palm OS, at least for now.

I must say that I have been tempted to try one of the Palm/Linux distributions (just for fun).

I guess that is what I was looking for. I want a PDA, but money is tight at the moment. I figured I would start by taking a look at opinions on the new linux version. I know Palm is good and I would never use PocketPC (or whatever M$ calls it now).

I understand the tight money issue well.  Some of the low end models on the market are nice.  Good luck!

RE: Palm OS or Linux

try half.com I saw used VIIs there for 99.00$ they have a bunch of used/referb and even new ones.
I would rather have a used model than say an m100 with its 2megs and no flashrom(=no os upgradability)I am also intrested in the linux handhelds and running linux on a palm os device but, the palm ports aren't quite ready just yet to replace palm os

RE: Palm OS or Linux

In a small sense, PalmOS is kinda like Linux, in terms of third party developers , you can find alot of free programs out there, depending on what you are looking for. Try tucows, or palmblvd.com or a number of other sites, that would save you more money and time than to try to go out there and find something for an OS not quite yet in the handheld market.
