thread183-1814079: Converting or getting rid of decimal places

Why do people close a thread like the one being referenced above? The answers work but they're not the only answers and, in this case, probably not the optimal answers.

RE: thread183-1814079 Why do people

Thread closing on tek-tips is not done by OP or mods, but just automatic by time. I don't know if it ever was different.

RE: thread183-1814079 Why do people

As Chris has said, thread closure on tek-tips is not done by OP or mods. Giving users the ability to close threads has been considered multiple times over the years, but has to date not been adopted for various reasons - two of which you have stated yourself: not the only answers and not necessarily the optimal answers.

A timeout for thread closure was decided on instead (to avoid people resurrecting zombie threads), which I believe is currently set at 6 months.

RE: thread183-1814079 Why do people

I think the present arrangement - where threads are closed automatically after six months from the last posting - is probably the best approach.

If you want to follow up a discussion in a closed thread, you can always start a new thread, with a reference back to the old one (as you did here, Jeff).
