Networked Epson TM-T88V shared between multiple POS systems

Networked Epson TM-T88V shared between multiple POS systems

We have POS labs with multiple different POS types. I would like to setup an Epson TMT88V printer on our network to be available for use by multiple POS systems.

On each of the POS system terminals that we need to print on, using the Epson Virtual Port tool 8.60b, we have mapped the network printer @ t a local COM port for the POS to print to using the virtual COM port.

We can not get more than one POS system at a time to work with the printer. We are using POSitouch, Squirrel, Maitre'D, Itwercs POS and PixelPoint POS systems.

Can anyone offer any advice on the best way to be able to share a networked Epson printer between multiple POS systems?

RE: Networked Epson TM-T88V shared between multiple POS systems

Usually one device will connect to the printer and send all print jobs to it. In the case of the Micros POS systems this would be the "print controller".
All other devices send their print jobs to the controller and the controller sends the jobs to the printer.

Usually these printers only accept a single connection which is why you cant get more than one pos system working at a time.

I dont think there is a feasible way to get this to work

CathalMF is correct. Specially most of the POS system uses technique called direct printing which does not use Windows printer drivers. When printer is initializing with any POS system it take a printer in to a state called "Mount". Once mounted, printer is booked for that particular POS system and will not be released unless printer restart. Otherwise, if POS system use Windows drivers to print, then Windows will automatically release the printer after the print job completed.

You can try configuring OPOS printer objects and use it in your multiple POS systems. But I have never tested.

Also OPOS Claim the printer exclusiv. and no other is able to access the printer.
If this is not implemented in the POS system i assume it does not work.
