IPO 8.1.95 and 9608 series phone show wrong set type 4624

IPO 8.1.95 and 9608 series phone show wrong set type 4624

IPO 8.1.95 and 9608 series phone show wrong set type 4624

(OP)
I have a customer that has purchased 9608 phones and when phones are installed they come up fine showing 9608 type in Manager and system status.
Eventually for some reason the set type changes to 4624 and buttons disappear. a reboot of phone or system fixes.
From the threads I have read on here, it is related to firmware on the phones. The phones were shipped with 6.6.4 firmware and I believe it is not compatible with old IPO office 8.1.
From the threads and from what I got from Avaya support site release notes the firmware on phones can not be downgraded.

If that is correct then upgrading the IP office would be an option but wanted to confirm that the firmware on those 9608 can not be downgraded.

Any insight would be appreciated.

You are correct, the firmware on the sets is the issue, and the resolution is to upgrade the IPO
