Advice Best collation to use

Advice Best collation to use

Advice Best collation to use

Hello everyone,

I am creating a desktop application and want to use mysql,
please suggest best collation
mostly no uni-code requirement,
application is accounting type

utf8_bin ?
utf8_general_ci ?

RE: Advice Best collation to use

Depends on how you intend or need to search and sort the data.

_bin collation is a search and sort on the binary value of the character

general_ci uses general language rules and case insensitive comparisons

general_cs uses general language rules and case sensitive comparisons

as an example

Ä = A
Ö = O
Ü = U
Will evaluate as true with a "general_cs" collation but not with a _bin collation and with a general_ci collation letter case is ignored.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

Never mind this jesus character, stars had to die for me to live.
