T7316 maximum distance from MICS KSU

T7316 maximum distance from MICS KSU

T7316 maximum distance from MICS KSU

(OP)
I have a T7316 that is 2000 feet away from the MICS KSU, it works but it is going up and down. I think it's a distance issue and I have heard you need to power up the port. If true what type of power supply do I need and how do I wire it?

Thank you,

RE: T7316 maximum distance from MICS KSU

In the UK, we used to use a station auxiliary power supply "SAPS". It was a small power supply unit that was fitted at the phone end to boost the current.

Other countries will probably have different versions.

The UK book has..

Station Auxiliary Power Supply

The Station Auxiliary Power Supply (SAPS) is a plug top power
supply that uses a standard 240 V ac, 50 Hz mains socket. It provides
a 24 V dc supply that enables devices to operate on longer extension
loops. The SAPS should not power more than one device.
SAPS for system telephones

For connection of a system telephone, the cabling is polarityinsensitive.

1. Connect the dc output pair to pins 2 and 5 of the telephone line
socket using a block terminal 80A or equivalent. This method is
recommended since the dc pair uses tinned stranded wire.
2. Plug the SAPS into a working mains socket and test the
telephone.

You can also for a clean install connect the leads from the power supplies to a cross-connect (via 80A, B Connect etc) then to the second pair of the station cable in the remote locations wiring closet punched straight on the BIX/66/110 block or if need to inside the jack where the phone is via same method with B connects.
Make sure to replace the standard cord with a 4 conductor cord.

Is the SAPS power supply the same as you would use to power a CAP module on a M7324?

Thank you,

Yes, exactly!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to install tomorrow, but I'm a little confused on how to wire it at the station end.

The Norstar port is wired to the telephone jack on the Blue pair (Pins 3 and 4 on the jack) Do I have to use a 80A, B Connect etc or can I cross wire the output from the power supply to the Green pair of the station cable. If so do I wire to pins 2 and 5 on the jack using a 4 conductor line cord.

Also I have a Valcom power supply that outputs 24V DC 300mA the Nortel one outputs 24V DC 250mA. Will the mA difference matter.

Thank you,

RE: T7316 maximum distance from MICS KSU

You do not have to use the 80A....must be a UK thing.
Just wire up the cross-connect to the power supply and then to the pins 2 and 5 or Orange pair/pins.

"Will the mA difference matter."
Sometimes, sometimes not...best to always use the proper power supply.

Ha-ha!. The 80A is a UK thing. It's BT slang for a type of block connector as the SAPS was using a thicker cable that wouldn't sit correctly in the line jack unit that the phone was connected with.

However, all it meant was that the 80A had two sets of connectors and the screw terminals was where the SAPS connected and the krone ones went to the LJU.

Most of us used to find a way of connecting it directly into the LJU.

The SAP's in N.A. however has screw terminals on the SAP instead of a wire lead so we can use the standard solid wire cross-connect between SAP and jack or block.
