Recover EMail From NTBACKUP

My SBS2003 Died HARD. All I really need to recover is the Exchange Database. I have an NTBACKUP from about 4 years ago.
I can start a VM with SBS2003 with ease.
Does it have to have the same LANMGR Name? Does it have to have the old DOMAIN name?
I've tried restoring the Exchange portion of the backup to such a VM but no luck.

BTW, I've no intention of remaining with SBS2003; I have WinServer 2008 running on that box now. No exchange.
I now host my mail at rackspace.

I'd appreciate any guidance offered.
