Do I have options other than POTS lines on my BCM50?

Do I have options other than POTS lines on my BCM50?

Do I have options other than POTS lines on my BCM50?

(OP)
A branch office has a BCM50 that has had 4 POTS lines plugged into it for years. Now we are persuaded by AT&T to get their Flexible Reach product as they claim they can provide "pseudo-POTS" lines for the BCM50.

I've had problems with these pseudo-POTS lines when connecting to fax machines in the past and am not 100% confident we'll have no problems when connecting to the BCM50.

My question is how do I tell if the BCM50 is able to accept some other kind of interface (shoud I be saying "trunks" here?) other than the POTS lines that we have now?

Details from Element Manager:
BCM50 system name: bcmm50r
System Software Version: 6.0.2.05.237

Thanks in advance and please correct my terminology.

The release of your system is R3, so I wouldn't recommend SIP trunks. Better to be at R6. You could add an expansion with a digital trunk MBM and port your numbers over to a PRI. You'll need to have a decent working knowledge of programming outgoing routes and incoming target lines if you go with a PRI.

Thanks, Brian. Is the BCM50 able to upgrade to r6? Is that digital trunk expansion still available? Got a part number?
Again, thanks!

Yes you can upgrade an R5 to an R6.

BCM DTM Digital Trunk Interface Module is what you should search for since there may be different part numbers.

Thank you all! I found the exact part numbers you mentioned, Brian. After seeing the upgrade license price I have to ask, why do I need to upgrade to r6? Will r3 not handle the T1/PRI interface?

Brian advised that you should go to R6 if going the SIP routes but instead you are going the the PRI route so you do not have to do so but it is recommended.

Thank you Brian. Not sure if I can convince the customer to go for the upgrade license at this time or not.
I'll review the forum's FAQ's and try to understand obtaining and installing software patches before asking anything else.

Question: Can the BCM50 have both the current POTS interface and the Digital Trunk interface physically coexisting before the cutover? Or will we need to replace the POTS interface with the Digital at time of cutover?

(And should this be a new thread?)

TIA

Awesome, thank you. Next question: do I need an expansion keycode to enable the new module? If so, what might that P/N be?

The licensecode is 118 and it can be up to 2 (Modules)

I'm not sure if Avaya will still support having Auth codes generated.

Sounds like you really need to speak direct with a vendor to get your answers all in one go and have it explained how it all works.
Some stuff cannot be discussed on forums as well.

Thanks to all. Got the expansion keycode and got it activated. I appreciate everyone "holding my hand"!
