Avaya IPO500V2 digital stations won't power or detect all phones

(OP)
Hello we are using 9.1.8.0 build 172.

Yesterday, all digital stations went off and now won't power. In going to the box it there are no green lights on the ports to indicate phone detected. Each DS card is still blinking red every 5 seconds saying card okay. The incoming pots lines appear to work. When dialing in using the monitor we can see the box recognize the incoming call and try to send it to a user in the hunt group but no phones/users are logged in so hence no ring. We can of course get into the box using manager and everything appears normal(that I know of). The box has one combo card two digital cards and one analog card.

We did the usual reboot of the system to see if that was all it needed. It really appears that when we plug in digital stations they aren't being seen by the cards. The combo card in slot one shows green lights for the incoming lines ports 9/10, port 1 blinking every 5 seconds but the ds phone plugged into the other half show nothing. We tried a different digital phone to see if they all got zapped somehow also no go.

Any thoughts or places to look for more log information? Thanks

What does SSA see in your system, does it see all of the cards. Did you try to plug a phone into each card directly not going through house wiring? Also try to remove all the cards and put them back in one at a time and test to see if a card is causing the problem, do each card alone in the system to see if the will work without the other cards.

Thanks for the reply teletechman. We did try plugging direct into each card. However, we may have just located the problem. I had him start on the card removal already and the combo card appears to be burnt up:see picture. I had him restart the unit with only the supposedly good digital cards in to see if they would work with the bad card out. The unit came up and yes now the digital stations register, power, and we can do internal dialing between extensions. So looks like we will be replacing the combo card. What was wierd was the combo card was working on the incoming analog lines despite it having this burn. As an added note for anyone else that may encounter something similar yes the SSA saw all cards and even the card status lights reported card okay.

Thanks for your help.

no problem thanks for telling us the solution.

Seen this 3 or 4 times, always looks the same, it's when some dickhead plugs a PC into the DS ports smile

RE: Avaya IPO500V2 digital stations won't power or detect all phones

that damage is on the trunk interface which suggests a possible lightning strike
if so I would recommend replacment of the whole system as it is impossible to tell how many other components may have been weakened

RE: Avaya IPO500V2 digital stations won't power or detect all phones

Had a similar one on Tuesday.
happened after a power outage on a DS8 card without trunk card on it.
bad part was that it was 180km each way to get to it and get back.

We replaced the single card. Then two days ago. Less than a month we had the exact same card fail and the exact same chip burnt. I'm suspecting we may have a current issue on one of the lines. I was hoping if I could get an avaya engineer to tell me which port the chip that burnt up was tied to it would simply the chase. (I don't think lightening as we are in the middle of winter here in Montana) Contemplating replacement of the entire chassis if we don't find a suspect line. I searched all around to find if a pc was plugged into a ds port but alas haven't located such.

Analog extension was found plugged into digital station port on the combo card. We are moving all the digital stations over to an open ds card and all the analog stations to the analog card leaving only the analog trunks on the combo card to isolate the failure cause.
