BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

(OP)
Hello,

My customer has two BCM50 6.0 systems networked together with H323 voip trunks.

Site A has 12 T7316E phones and 4 i2004 voip phones.

Site B has 10 T7316Es and no voip phones.

Both sites have been communicating across the voip trunks flawlessly for several years.

Now suddenly one of the i2004 phones at site A is experiencing one way speech (no receive audio, transmit audio okay) with all the phones at site B.

The other i2004s at site A don't have this problem.

I've rebooted both BCMs and checked to make sure the i2004 with trouble is programmed identical to the i2004s that are working fine. No help.

Could this be caused by an incorrectly programmed VPN between the two sites?

Thanks in advance.

RE: BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

It sounds as if the fault is related to just the one phone. My suggestion would be to give it a different IP address and change out the phone if possible.

RE: BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

Check the model number of the i2004 giving trouble. The phase 0 and phase 1 IP phones were problematic if not connected directly to the local LAN. Phase 2 i2004 model number is NTDU92, phase 1 is NTDU82, phase 0 is NTEX00.

Also see if the phones are all running the latest firmware, which is 0604DCO for the i2004.

Gentlemen, thank you both.

I'll try your suggestions today and post back with results.

RE: BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

I might try a different port on the switch for that one phone.

RE: BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

Just for laughs..have you tried changing the handset..or handset cord..it could be faulty..

I have come across a few if these with one way speech issues and it was the hand set cord.

Does it work ok when it's on hands free mode.

I would also try changing the phone if it's only that one that has the problem.

You never know.

FirebirdScrambler - I tried giving the i2004 a different ip address today to no avail. We've ordered another i2004 set to replace the trouble set with.

exsmogger - the trouble set is an NTDU92 and it does have a 0604DCO firmware level.

curlycord - I'll try another switch port tomorrow - thank you for this suggestion.

snowman50 - good suggestion about the handset and handset cord, I witnessed that very problem once. This phone shows the same trouble on speakerphone.

The customer's IT guy was messing around with the VPN on Friday and the trouble report for this phone came in on Monday.

Any thoughts on it being the VPN? From what I'm told, the 4 voip sets have static ip addresses.

RE: BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

It's very easy to blame the phone system or phone as being the culprit as that is the area when the issue is. You were very lucky in getting the IT guy to say that changes were made on the VPN.

They might have changed some settings, not knowing that it would affect other applications. It does seem a little odd that the changes were made on Friday and it wasn't until Monday that it was raised as a problem.

RE: BCM50 R6.0 voip set trouble

There's a setting in the IP phones for voice VLAN. It's off in the i2002 I have connected to David's BCM50. I've found that sometimes toggling this setting can inexplicably make the set work, but it does sound like a bad IP phone since the others are working normally

Thanks.

We'll try a different switch port, toggle the voice VLAN setting and replace the phone.

If the trouble persists after doing these things, we'll drop it in the IT person's lap.

Been meaning to follow up on this for a little while now.

We tried replacing the phone, tried different switch ports and tried toggling the voice VLAN setting but no help.

As we continued to examine this problem, we found that this one phone didn't have a static ip address assigned to it.

The trouble disappeared immediately upon assigning a static ip to this phone.

Thanks again to everyone.
