Hirshmann Spider II 8tx unmanaged switch problem fixed

thread586-1709570: Slow comunications through a Hirshmann Spider II 8tx unmanaged switch
I have the solutions to the problems “Slow communications through a Hirshmann Spider II 8tx unmanaged switch”.
Very few of our Ethernet network subnets have PCs connected – but I found Perfmon already installed on my laptop. Troubleshooting of the problem with ‘Perfmon’ and ‘Wire Shark’ on my laptop, both downstream and upstream from the suspect switch, showed no differences (no errors or other anomalies) before to after the switch. Just that comm was very slow downstream.
In the meantime, we also determined that ALL of these Hirshmann Spider II 8tx unmanaged switches would exhibit these same problem (slow comm.) if left on for a long enough time (like 3 or 6 months).
Finally, Hirshmann was able to cause the switch to go into the failure mode in their lab by causing some certain network errors while testing.
We received a few new ‘Hirshmann Spider II 8tx EEC unmanaged switches’ for testing and could not get them to go into the failure mode – SUCCESS!
We received about 225 new ‘Hirshmann Spider II 8tx EEC unmanaged switches’ and proceeded with a replacement project which solved our problem – hopefully forever.
Note that the older ‘Hirshmann Spider’ switches and the a ‘Hirshmann Spider II EEC 8tx’ unmanaged switches (EEC = Extended Environmental Conditions) did not exhibit this problem.
Note also, any ‘Hirshmann Spider II 8tx’ unmanaged switch built before about October 2013 is most probably defective.
Our thanks to this forum for the help, and to Hirshmann for a successful fix of the problem.
