Record Numbering only visible records.

Record Numbering only visible records.

Record Numbering only visible records.

I have a purchase order report that I am trying to number records based on change in group Supplier ID.

So I created a Running Total field called "#NumberLine"

Selected a field to summarize by e.g. Part ID

Selected Type of Summary: Count

Evaluate: For each Record

Reset: On Change of Group (Supplier ID).

This works very well. However, If I now change the report to consolidate duplicate parts and sum quantites (so I have another Running Total field called "#TotalQty" and show each part once per supplier, then my #NumberLine does not work well, it skips numbers (as if applying hidden numbering to the suppressed duplicate part records).

How do I ignore the suppressed records and base the #NumberLine on "visible" records?

RE: Record Numbering only visible records.

Instead of suppressing the dupes try grouping on part.

Actually, sorry, I did group by Part. I guess I meant to say "hidden" instead of "suppressed".

I've grouped by part and created a running total for quantity.

I now want to number the lines, but am getting skipped numbers whereever a part would have appeared more than once before grouping.

RE: Record Numbering only visible records.

Create a running total that uses the opposite of your suppress formula.

I am not suppressing though. I am grouping and have a running total to sum quantities.

RE: Record Numbering only visible records.

Then evaluate the running total on change of group.

That is what I tried initially. That isn't working.
