Hi My Customer is about to buy a UCX50 Rls 4.5. They have more than 20Mb of music and announcements and want to know if they can stream from a USB stick inserted directly into the UCX. If not what would the best work around be.

RE: MOH directly from USB / UCX50 4.5

The simple answer is no. Considering the storage size on the UCx50, 20 MB of music and announcements is effectively nothing - I see no reason why you shouldn't simply upload these files to the UCx system. Use the PBX - PBX Configuration - Music on Hold page to upload the MOH files and the PBX - PBX Configuration - System Recordings to upload the announcements.

RE: MOH directly from USB / UCX50 4.5

ucxguy, The wiki site says
"There is a 20 MB file size limit configured for uploads to the UCX system"
Am I missing something or maybe the site has not been updated?

RE: MOH directly from USB / UCX50 4.5

The 20 MB is a file size limit for a single file upload. You can upload many files up to 20 MB each.

RE: MOH directly from USB / UCX50 4.5

Again another instance of needing root access!

It is possible with root access and the files on the usb stick are .wav mono, 16 bit, 8000Hz

Web GUI PBX tab -> PBX Configuration -> Music on Hold -> Add Music Category enter fromusb (or name of your choice)
save and apply
Insert usb stick goto Support tab choose messages from the system log files drop down menu
scroll to the bottom and look for anything about usb mass storage device mine happens to be sdb:sdb1 but only the sdb1 is needed

from the cmd line with root privileges enter mount /dev/sdb1 /var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3/fromusb
if it mounted you can enter ls-l /var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3/fromusb and a list of files on the stick will be displayed

Now choose fromusb as your MOH source on inbound routes etc.

Remember to unmount the stick before removing by entering umount /dev/sdb1 from the cmd line

RE: MOH directly from USB / UCX50 4.5

How do you get to a command line with root privileges?

RE: MOH directly from USB / UCX50 4.5

Why don't you just buy a music-on-hold device like a Premier or similar and use the streaming input capability of the UCx? It will play whatever you put on the USB stick.
