IIS7 SMTP sending directly not via SMTP server

IIS7 SMTP sending directly not via SMTP server

(OP)
A vendor has installed some software on a W2K8R2 server. They need to use IIS's SMTP settings to send emails. I've configured the following settings:

Quote:

E-mail address: donotreply@mydomain.com
Deliver e-amail to SMTP server: exchange.mydomain.com
Port: 25
Authentication Settings: Specify credentials, myuser@mydomain.com
It wouldn't send. Then I worked out that our firewall was blocking TCP/25 for everything other than the Exchange servers (to stop viruses etc). Once I opened that up it started to work but it's not going via Exchange - it's sending directly out.

I've restarted the SMTP service several times.

Why is it sending directly in contradiction to the settings?
