Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I am trying to configure a MidSized Enterprise but sip does not seem to work. I have configured a sip user and followed all configuration documentation but the user does not register. How can I fix this?

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

Not a lot to go by here... What SIP phone are you trying to register? What configuration documentation are you following? Have you done traces to try to see what is happening?

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

That's a pretty broad question!

0.traceSM from the Session Manager CLI - what do you see when your phone tries registering?
1.Media gateway registered? Your pre-configured SIP trunks between CM/SM will never come up if CM doesn't have a registered media gateway.
2.Signaling/trunk group 3 is the preconfigured trunk for SM on Midsize Enterprise
3.Can you call CMM voicemail from a non-SIP station? Its built in, and trunked from CM through SM. It would prove at least something SIP is working.
4.You can register a phone to SM with just a SIP handle and communication profile password. It won't do much of anything feature-wise, but it'll get a dial tone. (traceSM)

I have installed the template using the document "Implementing Avaya Aura Solution for Midsize Enterprise" and I am testing on a one-X communicator soft phone. I have also tried testing with an X-LITE phone.

This install is hospitality and the SIP connection to DUVOICE voice mail returns a fast busy as well

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

You can trace the SIP trunk from CM and you can trace all SIP messaging from SM.

Sometimes the rejection messages have something in parentheses as to why they've been rejected - like no DSP resources.

While the documents bring you close to a full working system, they by no means tie up all the loose ends of a project of any size.

You sound like you have a lot of work ahead of you!

How do I trace the sip trunk?

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

when you installed the template, you defined a customer account for Session Manager. SSH to Session Manager's management IP address with that account. It has 2 IPs - one for management and one for SIP traffic.

Once you login from the command line, you can run a command called "traceSM" that will show you SIP messages to/from Session Manager.

Respectfully, you sound like you're in over your head on this.

Kyle555 I have no idea why the documents won't help you with these.

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

I don't need help with midsize enterprise - I've done it many times.

If you can't login to a Session Manager and trace it to see why a phone isn't registering, you really shouldn't be running with the ball on that kind of project.

The short answer to why you're not getting phones up is because you're doing something wrong. Everyone here is happy to help you get through the odd problem, but you need to give us something to work with.

Hi I am seeing an error when I try to register:

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

You might consider it a good idea to change your customer's domain to "mydomain.com" for the purposes of posting on the internet...

That being said...

Go in System Manager's webpage, in the center column, under "Routing", you'll get a tab open with a menu on the left.

In that menu on the left, under "Domains", you need to define that domain. If the sip account were kyle555@dclake.com, you would need to add dclake.com in that field as a domain, otherwise Session Manager will give you precisely the message you're mentioning.

Thanks Kyle55

Will try. I did consider changing the customer's domain but it was too late and I cannot edit.

OK, there was a typo with the domain but now the message has changed:

20:07:08.304 | |<--Forbidd-| | | (74) 403 Forbidden (Authorization Failed)
20:07:08.304 |<--Forbidd-| | | | (74) 403 Forbidden (Authorization Failed)

RE: Can't Register SIP Phones to Aura MidSized Enterprise

OK, that's progress.

"Cannot determine realm" means you have not defined the proper SIP domain in Session Manager for whatever the phone is sending. That is fixed.

Authorization failed means your password is wrong.

That is defined in "User Management", in the user's page, under "Communication Profile" tab and the user/pass combination is whatever you defined as that user's SIP handle as Avaya SIP and Communication Address - 1002@yourcompany.com, for example. The password is whatever the "Communication Profile Password" is at the top of that page.
