Sidekick 98 / Windows 8.1

Sidekick 98 / Windows 8.1

Hi Everyone,
I'm doing a big favour in behalf of my Dad who's transferring his Sidekick data onto a new computer running Windows 8.
I've installed the Oracle VirtualBox and successfully installed it so that it has a permanent shared drive.
I have copied the program files from the old computer but it hasn't worked because I think he had a slightly different version of Windows XP, I am using Windows 8.1 I believe, (This isn't my speciality) I have also risked downloading a .zip file off another website but have no idea how to install it. I would really appreciate if someone could explain how to set-up the Sidekick 98 and I think my Dad would really appreciate your help, this would be saving his business and consequently his pension!
Thanks for your help, have a nice day.
