Software re installs on a daily basis

Software re installs on a daily basis

Hi Everyone. Im not sure if you can assist however here goes.
We use Altiris NS and DS to deploy images and packages to machines around our estate. Its an amazing program and does a great job, however this week we have come across a very un usual issue.

For some reason a group of PCs in a single location have started to re install a single package on a daily basis. This forces a restart of the PC each time.
It always seems to be happening after 18:00 and according to the event logs its always the same software that is causing the issue.

To try and resolve this we turned off the job in Altiris. Made no difference.
We have rebuilt the PC in question. Made no difference.
We removed the software packages from the local machine. Made no difference
We have tried to install the software manually to ensure that all the components are installed correctly. Made no difference.

Has anyone else come across anything like this before. Its only affecting a few machines and what makes it worse is that they are all in one location.

Thanks for reading and i look forward to hearing from some of you.

Craig

Have you had a look at task scheduler on the affected PCs?

Hi Genomon

Yes, i have checked the task scheduler and there is nothing set. We dont use task scheduler for anything on the PCs here.

RE: Software re installs on a daily basis

The timing thing is odd. We have had problems with newer versions of software forcing reinstalls if older versions are not uninstalled first, but that is just a shot in the dark...
