macola error 012 - startup issue

macola error 012 - startup issue

there was a field called ( DEFAULT ) and i thought it was which database macola showed on startup but it wasnt! it was a file path to essential startup file "SYSPASS.BTR". any thoughts on how i can fix this? because now it wont launch it just tells me error, then gives me a CMD-like screen that's white where i can enter text but it just closes after i hit enter. at the top of the white box it says "filesys: STOP RUN encountered" (the window is titled macola32).

RE: macola error 012 - startup issue

Lots of questions:

What version of Macola?
What version of btrieve/pervasive?
Was this a field or a file?
Did you delete this file? If so why not just restore it from your recycle bin?
Do you have a backup you can restore from?
Is this all workstations or just one workstation?

RE: macola error 012 - startup issue

it says macola file version 77.300.0.1 (macola is not under installed programs but does have an empty folder. the .exe im using is on a network server wheras pervasive is on my pc)
pervasive.SQL 9 SP1 client for windows (winXP)

its not a file its macola itself. i use the Macola32.exe icon to launch, then login. i get all the databases (including samples) and before going into the structure and opening new windows for lookup/entry, i had clicked on a FILE type button. like how if you open microsoft word it has File edit help etc (well it use to before 2007+ now it has the windows icon and save etc). i changed a PATHway for the startup of macola. now when i try launching the macola32.exe it says error 012 file not found Syspass.btr. This file is under macola70/Screens and was not deleted or moved, macola is just looking in the wrong place for it. my question is how to point macola back to the right spot because i can no longer open macola and change it the way i did previously (because macola wont open).

the problem appears to only be on my end, i've watched others login from their computers. so i'll have to ask our techsupport guy to reinstall for me and see if that works. other posts i've seen mention deleting all users and making new ones but their problems were at least slightly different.

RE: macola error 012 - startup issue

So this is only one workstation correct? Pretty import piece of info to leave out.
Please define "going into the structure". This is new terminology for me.

Can you tell me precisely what you did? Pathway is also something I have never heard of regarding Macola. I have heard of the environment variable PATH. Did you change this? I've been doing this for 16 years. No offense, but is English your first language? If not perhaps you could get a co-worker to help you with this post.

The client reinstall sounds like a great idea.

By "one workstation" do you mean the engine for btr? or one client? I am the only individual/computer/user effected by my current problem. Macola is not installed on my PC it is installed on a network pc so I am unsure how I am the only user effected as the problem is before I log in. in any case..

my terms are 'for a lack of better words' so sorry if I'm not very clear. By pathway I mean there is 'something' in the macola32.exe window (as in i opened macola and there's a window that the program is defined by; as-in size/shape and a header or top menu bar) under file/options/config/something (again i cant re-open macola so i dont remember what this 'field' was) that asked for a path; as-in C:\Program Files\macola70. I changed that 'path' without the knowledge of what i was messing up.

It wants to find this file: macola70\Screens\syspass.btr but it's looking in the wrong spot because i asked it to. Now i cannot re-open macola to change this back to what it said before (which was exactly this: ( DEFAULT ) .)

I was only working with the user-end side of macola and happened to change a setting the disabled startup of macola. im not talking about coding or anything, but i figure i need to sort through coding (.txt files or setup utilities) in order to correct my mistake.

RE: macola error 012 - startup issue

Is this the screen you changed?

yes! is there any way to change that back without opening macola32.exe?

RE: macola error 012 - startup issue

(OP)
yes, fixed it! thanks a ton. it was under macola7.ini i just had to point it back. customscreens=yes, customscreensdir= macola70/screens. thanks for bearing with me!
