MS Search Server Express 2010 "Internal server error exception"

MS Search Server Express 2010 "Internal server error exception"

MS Search Server Express 2010 "Internal server error exception"

(OP)
I am pretty new to Sharepoint and to MS Search Server Express. All searching in Sharepoint was working previous to when I installed MS Search Server Express the other day. Now I cannot search using Search Server Express and also cannot search using the "Search this site" box in Sharepoint. In either case I get "Error" "Internal server error exception". This is on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and we are using Sharepoint Foundation 2010.

In the ULS logs I get (all for Process w3wp.exe):

Name=Request (GET:http://sharepoint.townofpittsford.local:80/_layout...)
