ill formed if

Ive started coding in scheme and I have a bit of an problem

(define (num-aces cards)
(if (null? cards)
(+ (if (equal? (car cards)) 'A) 1 0)
(num-aces (cdr cards)))

this statement returns this error ---> Ill-formed special form: if

RE: ill formed if

There is a bad parenthesis after (car cards). It should be

CODE -->

(define (num-aces cards)
  (if (null? cards)
      (+ (if (equal? (car cards) 'A) 1 0)
      (num-aces (cdr cards)))
