Palm Processor Defect

(OP)
I received this message from Palm over the weekend and thought I would pass it on in case others are affected.

-Quoted Message-

Palm, Inc. is alerting customers that we have identified a
faulty 8 MB DRAM chip supplied by a third-party vendor and
used in a limited run of Palm(TM) IIIc, IIIxe, and Vx
handhelds.  Palm, Inc. is in the process of developing a
diagnostic test and software patch to address potential problems.

If you purchased your Palm(TM) between
October 1, 1999 and June 1, 2000, stay tuned for
information regarding the online diagnostic test
that will determine if you require the software
patch. The test will take about 30 minutes and the
software patch, if needed will take under a minute to
install.  Laboratory tests indicate that, without
the patch, handhelds containing the faulty chip have
a remote chance of experiencing data loss or an error
that would require a complete reset of the device.
The Palm, Inc. team will send an e-mail notification and
further instructions as soon as the diagnostic test and
software patch are available. Until then, please remember to
perform regular HotSync(R) operations as a cautionary measure.
