Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

(OP)
Macola/Progression 7.5.102C
Pervasive 2000i
Netware-6/SP5
Workstation WinXP/SP3

This is probably something trivial simple, but it is driving me nuts.
I had to setup a new workstation with WindowsXP. Not had to do this in years.
But when I try to start Macola clicking on the desktop shortcut,
it ends up saying it cannot find MACOLA7.INI and sometimes even Betrieve.

The network/server has been working for years, and other workstations
even those with WinXP/SP3 likewise work just fine. It's just this new workstation.

Only difference I can think of is this is a fresh new WinXP install from scratch,
not an upgrade to a previous existing Win2K machine.

I put the NW server/IP into the Hosts file, and added the NW server to TRUSTED sites.
This workstation/client has full rights to the NW drive/volume where Macola resides.

I run the Pervasive Analyzer and it passes all the tests, from this same workstation.
I have reinstalled the Pervasive client again, and also the Macola client again.
Problem still remains.

It seems like it is a security access issue or something similar.
But I cannot think of anything else that could be blocking it, or what more I can add.
Makes no sense. I'm out of ideas.

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks, Chris.

RE: Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

The macola7.ini file should be in the local c:\windows folder.

On a new workstation setup, you'll need to install the Pervasive client and Macola client, and this should automatically create the local macola7.ini file. Did you run both of these client installs?

RE: Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

This workstation PC has 2 partitions: C:2GB(DOS)-Boot and D:38GB(NTFS)-WinXP
I checked your idea, but the MACOLA7.INI is in the D:\WINDOWS folder.
I thought perhaps MACOLA32.EXE only looks in C:\WINDOWS,
so I created a WINDOWS folder on C:\ and put a copy of MACOLA7.INI in there too.
Tried it again, but still same problem.

I also tried crediting \WINNT folders on both for kicks, and put it in those as well,
but still problem remains.

This is what's inside the MACOLA7.INI:

[Windows-Info]
Last-Login=SUSIE
Run-Unit-Stack-Size=7680
Window-Mono-Spaced=No
Field-Extra-Height=0
Last-Login-Company=0001
Enter-To-Advance=No
NT=No
SQL-Trace=No
70Root-Dir=S:\MACOLA70

Next idea?

Thanks, Chris.

RE: Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

Did you run the Macola client install? Yes or no?

RE: Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

Yes, twice as I stated above. I just ran it again for a 3rd time.

Watched it copy in the DLL's into the D:\WINDOWS... folders.
Rebooted, tried it again from the Programs|Menu ...
same problem==>> "MACOLA7.INI not found, default setup used"

I've installed Macola on probably 50 PC's through the years.
Never remember having this much problem before.
I'm stumped. Still looking for ideas.

Thanks, Chris.

RE: Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

Make sure the 70Root-Dir= is correct in the Macola7.ini
Check user's home directory\Windows folder, from the Run command: %SystemRoot% <enter>
You need to make sure the user has Full Control rights to the Macola7.ini file in his home directory\Windows folder

RE: Cannot Find MACOLA7.INI

(OP)
Solution:
==========

I had suspected that the problem must be related
somehow to the WinXP install on Drive D:\ rather than on Drive C:\.

So I installed a copy of Win2K on Drive C:\ partition,
and then ran the Pervasive and Macola client installers in Win2K as well.
Macola had no problem starting up in this Win2K on C:\ right from the start.

I then booted back into the WinXP install on Drive D:\,
re-ran the Macola client Installer, and viola now Macola finds MACOLA7.INI and works !!!

Conclusion:
============
It appears that something in the Macola Installer is expecting/assuming the OS
to always be installed on Drive C:\. I did another test and renamed the Win2K
C:\WINNT folder just to see if the Macola install on D:\Windows WinXP would
stop working, but it did not. It keeps working. So starting Macola does not appear
to need to access the files in the C:\WINNT anymore, but the client installer did need it.

Newer versions of Macola may have this fixed, and perhaps handle different OS drive
locations. But this 7.5 version seems to need an OS installed on drive C:\
to install right on any other drive.

Chris.
