WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

I try to enable WOL on 5530 from vlan 10 to vlan20.
-newest firmware and tested with older firmware
-new config ( boot def.)
-Routing enabled
-each vlan has a IP: and
-enabled routing on vlans
-routing between VLANs: OK ( Ping )

I configured udp forwarding:
ip forwarding-protocol udp 9 WOL ( Port 9, name WOL )
ip forwarding-protocol udp portfwdlist 1 9 name wol_pfwdlist ( ID 1, Protocol 9, Dest. IP for UDP protocol,name of List )
int vlan 10 ( vlan that reach the WOL Broadcasts, the WOL broadcast sender is on this vlan. )
ip forwarding-protocol udp vlan 10 portfwdlist 1

Now each time I send a WOL magic paket ( from to with MAC from PC on VLAN 20 ), the counter of NumRxPkts counts 1 paket, but there are no NumFwdPkts.
Port 9 is correct ( Wireshark on WOL sender )
If I send WOL direct without broadcast to, the paket reaches the PC correct ( Wireshark on receiver PC )

My problem is: the vlan 10 does not transfer the WOL Broadcasts to vlan 20
What I forgot or what I do wrong ?

RE: WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

You have the destination IP as What is the subnet mask you are using?

If the mask is different for vlans 10 and 20 you may need to add the bcast_mask to the vlan command to route correctly.

The ttl of 1 should be OK, but remove it to see if it makes a difference. by default the switch will set a ttl of 4

RE: WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

I use the subnetmask in every network.
ttl is 4.

RE: WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

with at /24 bit mask your destination IP address of is invalid as it is the subnet broadcast address. With udp forwarding you have to specify specific addresses.

Have you tried enabling directed broadcasts? This should do what you want.

To enable from global config mode

# ip directed-broadcast enable

RE: WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

Yes, I tried IP directed Broadcast and it works, but I do not enable it, because security.
There are some other VLANs.
I only need Wake on LAN from VLAN 10 to VLAN 20.
So I need to broadcast the WOL magic pakets to

RE: WOL on ERS 5500 between VLANs

Unfortunately you can only use directed broadcasts to specific ip addresses and can only configure 128 addresses.
