buddypress any good for this?

buddypress any good for this?

buddypress any good for this?

Hi folks

I have to build a website for my company that

allows people to create a page with info about them
they upload products that fit into certain categories
their page shows their products
there is a search page that allows visitors to search all products by category and free text field
clicking on a product takes the visitor to a page with the product info and a link to the persons profile

Can wordpress and buddypress do this or is there something else in wordpress that may acgieve this or would I be better off building something from scratch?

Thanks for any input

RE: buddypress any good for this?

RE: buddypress any good for this?

is there any particular plugin that will save lots of development?

I have researched wordpress and if I did myself is the process

create new custom post type for the profile page
create new custom post type for products
Link the two above
create search page to search product custom post type?

RE: buddypress any good for this?

search the plugins. there are plenty that help. there is one that will help you set up custom post types, custom fields, searches, etc.

consider using a vanilla shopping cart type plugin.
treat the person as a head category
the categories of products as sub-categories of the head
the products as fitting into the sub-categories.

following this paradigm you should not need any manual custom post types. Just create a minor piece of code that:

1. creates a new head category on signing up a new person
2. ensure that head category is available only to that person.

i suspect that's your quickest win given the limited information we have.
